WARNING SIGNS
When something feels wrong
What are common signs of a transmission problem?
Slipping, hard or delayed shifts, fluid leaks, unusual noises, burning smells and warning lights can signal a concern. Symptoms alone do not identify the failed component. Tell us when the problem happens so we can plan the evaluation. Learn about transmission diagnostics →
Can I keep driving if the transmission slips or will not engage?
Slipping, overheating, major leaks or failure to engage can worsen quickly. Stop driving if the vehicle feels unsafe or loses drive, and call us about the next step. We can discuss how to get the vehicle to our Stockbridge shop; towing arrangements and costs should be confirmed separately.
What should I do if I notice a transmission-fluid leak?
Call before driving farther if you notice significant fluid loss or suspect the transmission is running low. The fluid type and source need to be identified; a puddle alone does not tell us which repair is needed. If the vehicle is under TECHSPRO warranty, follow the written leak-reporting and stop-driving instructions. Read about transmission leak inspection →
TRANSMISSION REBUILDS
Understand the repair options
Does a slipping transmission always need a rebuild?
No. Diagnosis comes first. Some concerns may call for a targeted repair, while internal wear or damage may make rebuilding or replacement worth considering. We explain the findings and the available options for your vehicle.
What does rebuilding a transmission involve?
The existing transmission is removed, disassembled and inspected. Components included in the authorized work are replaced, then the unit is reassembled, installed and checked. The scope depends on the findings. Explore transmission rebuilds in Stockbridge →
Does a rebuild mean every component is replaced?
No. Rebuilding does not automatically replace every component. Inspection determines which components are suitable for reuse and which require repair or replacement. Review the proposed scope and exclusions with the shop before approving the work.
How do you decide between repair, rebuilding and replacement?
We consider the transmission condition, available parts or replacement assemblies, the proposed work and the vehicle’s overall condition. We explain the available choices so you can weigh the complete repair and applicable coverage. Compare repair, rebuild and replacement →
FLUID & MAINTENANCE
Choose the service your vehicle needs
Can a fluid service fix a slipping transmission?
A fluid service does not repair worn internal components. Whether maintenance is appropriate depends on the cause of the symptoms, the transmission type and its condition. Have the concern evaluated before choosing a fluid service as the solution.
How often should transmission fluid be serviced?
The interval depends on the vehicle, transmission and manufacturer requirements, along with service history and how the vehicle is used. Tell us the year, make, model, mileage and previous service so we can discuss the appropriate next step.
Do all transmissions use the same fluid or service method?
No. The correct fluid specification and service procedure depend on the transmission. A fluid mentioned on another vehicle’s invoice is not necessarily right for yours. Read about transmission fluid and maintenance →
COST, TIMING & APPOINTMENTS
Plan your visit
What does the complimentary initial inspection include?
For qualifying vehicles, the complimentary initial inspection includes a computer scan, fluid level and condition review, a road test when safe, and a visual inspection. Additional testing, disassembly, fluids, parts and repairs are not included. We explain the findings and recommended next step.
What affects the cost of transmission work?
The vehicle and transmission, inspection findings, parts or assembly availability, and proposed repair scope affect the cost. After evaluation, we explain the recommended work. If additional testing or disassembly has a charge, we explain it before proceeding. Call with your vehicle details to discuss an evaluation.
How long does a transmission rebuild take?
Timing depends on inspection, the approved scope and parts availability. Ask for an expected schedule when reviewing the proposed work and for updates if the schedule changes. We do not promise the same completion time for every vehicle.
Do I need an appointment, and what information should I bring?
Appointments are recommended, especially for diagnostics and major transmission work. Have the year, make, model, mileage, symptoms and any previous repair information ready. Provide the VIN if requested to check the application. Book an inspection →
